Unknown miscreants last night torched St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Sugnu at around 9:50 PM. On visiting the incident site by our reporters, it was learnt that altogether around ten rooms were burnt to ashes in the inferno, including several important documents which were kept in the Principal’s room, and a common room for teachers. Following the incident, angry locals closed down all the shops in Sugnu keithel in condemnation of the arson attack. Parents and guardians along with several leaders of Civil Society Organisations also strongly condemned the incident. They demanded that the authorities bring all culprits to book and punished according to the law. Vice president of Parish Pastoral Council St. Joseph, Sugnu, Jecob Documang told media persons that he was suspicious some individuals were behind the incident. He said there was an incident wherein 6 students of the School were suspended from class for one month over misconduct towards their teachers, following which, the Kuki Student’s Organisation (KSO) forced to shut down the institute He said to settle the matter, the School Authority and KSO were planning to hold a meeting this morning.
President of Zou Student’s Union, Sugnu, and Vinson Zou also expressed his viewpoint over the fire incident to our reporter.
