Government schools in and around Imphal are lacking behind in both quality and structure. As part of an inspection visit carried out today at Phayeng Kangjeibung Upper Primary School by Phayeng Gram Panchayat Pradhan, School Management Committee and guardians of the school students, it came to light that despite the school being upgraded to upper primary school level since 2013, the institute has not yet been provided with the required number of teachers and infrastructures. There are no sufficient classrooms for the students and no proper drinking water facilities available. There are no separate washrooms for the boys and the girls. It was also found that the school was running only up to class VI against the guidelines which say normally the institute should have up to class VIII. Talking to TOM TV, local Pradhan Angom Shyamasakhi, Head Mistress in-charge of the School, G Memcha, School Management Committee member Angom Jiten and guardians of the school students Angom Awangjao expressed their concerns and drew the attention of the authorities to look into the matter.
