RESIDENTS OF KHURAI SNATCHED AWAY THE RESIGNATION LETTER FROM MLA SUSHINDRO

Khurai residents thronged the residence of local MLA L Sushindro who wants to quit his post in the wake of the powerful blast that occurred at his Khurai Sajor Leikai residence of Imphal East on July 4. The MLA along with the people of Khurai constituency are protesting against the blast incident. The residents are opposing his decision to step down as MLA. There are reports that he was locked inside his residence by his supporters to foil his attempt to resign from his post.

Angry at the powerful blast that occurred at his residence on July 4, Khurai MLA L Sushindro today tried to tender resignation from his post. But he was blocked by his supporters and resisted the attempt. At around 11 am, the MLA went out of his residence with the plan to resign when a large number of his supporters snatched away the resignation letter from him before it was being torn.  Sushindro took the decision as he wanted to fulfil promises he has made to the people of his constituency,  He was supposed to hand over the resignation letter to either Manipur BJP president or Chief Minister N Biren or the Speaker. On learning the MLA’s stand, a large number of locals gathered at this residential gate and started shouting that Sushindro is innocent and that those who are guilty should resign. He was prevented by the crowd from leaving the residence. TOM TV learnt that the Khurai MLA wanted to tender resignation thinking he had failed to provide what is deserved to the people of his constituency. It may be noted that the MLA recently expressed dismay over the failure of the concerned authority to distribute rice under National Food Security Act (NFSA) to beneficiaries of his constituency for almost six months which drew backlash from Consumer Affairs & Food and Public Distribution minister Karam Shyam who flatly refuted the statement of MLA Sushindro.

In the aftermath of the July 4 blast incident at Sushindro’s residence, a joint action committee (JAC) was formed which later staged protests denouncing the attack. JAC convenor Chabungbam Usharanjan said that the bomb attack at the MLA’s residence akin to attacking the residents of Khurai constituency. He said the attack came not long after the MLA raised his voiced against non-distribution of NFSA rice entitled to the households of his constituency which manifests suspicion.
