Student organizations, civil bodies along with the people protested against the Citizenship amendment bill passed in Lok Sabha on January 8 last. AMSU, MSF, DESAM, AIMS, SUK and KSA called a public meeting at the centenary hall of Manipur University today. Those who attended the meeting emphasized on impact of the bill on the people of northeast and the perspective of Government on the matter. The speakers at the meeting urged the State Government to call special assembly sitting against the bill and appealed the people to come together against the bill.
Volunteers of five student organizations SSUM, RSF, MSAD, AMPSUM and AMMSO jointly launched protest against the bill today. All market places, including Khwairamband market held a sit in protest. Sit in protest were held at Yairipok keithel, thoubal keithel, kakching keithel, wangoi keithel, bishnupur keithe, moirang keithel, kwakta keithel, lilong keithel and hatta. Also, at different places such as keishampat hodam leirak, keishampat thokchom leikai, konung mamang, tera thangapat mapal, pishum keithel and kakwa bazaar. Protestors urged State Government to take stand against the bill and that the bill can’t be implemented in the state.
