The Manipur Government has taken up various steps to root out poverty in the State. As part of the Government’s efforts for development, it has also taken up various measures to electrify every part of the State under Ujala scheme. Despite all the assurances and claims, Hangoipat, a village in Manipur’s Thoubal district still depends on candle and kerosene lamps as sources of light.
The village has 30 households with a population of around 150 electorates excluding children People residing in the Hangoipat village is living in a dilapidated condition.
Deprived of the most important basic amenities of modern life, the villagers are still using candles and kerosene lamps to light up their homes.
The question still remains whether the Go to village and Go to hills campaign have been a success or merely some ineffective slogans which sooth only to the ears.
