Under the sponsorship of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and supervision of KVK Imphal East (Central Agricultural University), a programme for construction of 20 low-cost water harvesting structures has been started to help tackle the current drought-like situation in Manipur. At the programme held at the office of KVK Imphal east, general manager of NABARD Manipur Regional Office Dr.KJ.Satyasai, director of Extension Education, CAU Imphal Professor Ratan Kumar Saha, deputy general manager of NABARD Manipur Regional Office Dr.Ravi Babu and Programme Coordinator of KVK Imphal East S Molibala Devi were present.
Speaking at the programme, Dr KJ Satyasai said that Manipur has been facing the impact of climate change. Most fields have become unpluggable due to the drought-like situation in various places, he noted. He further stated that the project has been taken up by NABARD. In the first phase, 20 water structures will be built at four farmers’ clubs in Imphal East, Dr Kj said, adding that if the project succeeds, more such water structures will be made available.
