In continuation with the ongoing events being organised by Assam Rifles to commemorate the 20th year of Kargil War (Operation Vijay), various programmes and events were organized at different locations of the State under IGAR (South) on 23rd July 2019.
Mantripukhri Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles organised an Educational and Patriotic event on Kargil War at Sainik School, Imphal. The event commenced with an inspirational lecture during which the students of the school were informed about the saga of the Kargil War. The students were enlightened on the bravery and sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian Army who fought the war against Pakistani intruders in inhospitable terrain and inclement weather conditions of Kargil, Dras and Batalik Sub Sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. This was followed by a screening of a short movie on the Kargil War and an interactive session for the students.
Tulihal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles organised a function at UNACCO School, Maitram to celebrate the Kargil victory. The event commenced with an informative talk on Kargil War giving out the bone-chilling stories of the War. A short documentary film was also screened for the students to understand how the Indian Army fought and won the war against all odds. The event included an exhibition of weapons and equipment was also organised. Various patriotic songs were played and photographs of the Kargil War were also displayed. The event culminated with students writing appreciation messages on the Message boards and taking selfies at the selfie corner with cutout posters of soldiers and witnessed by over 1300 students and Staff of the Schools.
Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles organised Vijay Diwas Quiz Competition at Somsai, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. A total of 75 students from 5 schools of Ukhrul District took part in the event. The event was enthusiastically participated by students wherein questions related to war heroes, historical events and battles fought during Operation Vijay were asked. The young children participated with full zeal and enthusiasm. It was followed by prize distribution and culminated with refreshments for the students. The event was aimed at encouraging and motivating the students to join armed forces by making them aware of service rendered by Armed forces to the nation by touching upon the history and supreme sacrifices made by war heroes during 1999 Kargil war.
Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles organized a motivational lecture for the students of St Paul’s School, Pallel. The students were told the stories of valour and sacrifice of our brave soldiers who fought gallant battles during the Kargil War. A documentary film on the Kargil War was shown to the students to make them understand how did the gallant battles were fought on the snow-capped peak in high altitude area which motivated them. Students curiously enquired about joining armed forces for which they were provided information regarding admission to Sainik Schools, Military schools, RIMC and upcoming NDA/NA examinations. Assam Rifles is always dedicated towards providing support to the people of North East. Such lectures help in the overall development of children and act as a source of motivation to guide them for a future course. The students were sensitized about their role in nation-building. The students and teachers of St Paul’s School expressed their gratitude and appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles for the conduct of such motivational lecture.
